By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) held a key meeting with State Executives on October 16, 2025, to discuss preparations for the 2026 Hajj and review fare reductions directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Chairman/CEO Alhaji Abdullahi Saleh Usman called for unity and cooperation between NAHCON and the states to ensure a smooth exercise. Commissioner for Operations, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, noted that the Vice President’s office had instructed the Commission to review and cut Hajj fares, with final approval pending. States were also allowed to choose their preferred service providers.

Dr. Saidu, representing the Ministry of Health, outlined new Saudi health regulations requiring all intending pilgrims to be medically fit. He stressed that valid medical certificates and vaccinations are mandatory before payment and visa issuance.

Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Aliyu Abdulrazaq, briefed participants on remittances and bookings, urging states to intensify sensitization efforts. Prof. Abubakar Abubakar Yagawal distributed official circulars, while Adamawa State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar, commended NAHCON’s dedication and teamwork.
