INEC MEETS PDP LEADERS OVER PARTY CRISIS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is holding a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as part of efforts to uphold the constitution, the Electoral Act and the commission’s guidelines.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said the engagement followed several correspondences received by the commission and is aimed at safeguarding democratic processes ahead of preparations for the FCT Area Council elections next year.

He urged the party’s leadership to resolve its internal disagreements in the interest of democracy and political stability. The meeting, which brought together leaders from the party’s factions, is still ongoing.
