SUPREME COURT AFFIRMS SHERIFF OBOREVWORI AS THE VALIDLY ELECTED GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE                                                              19-01-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                    The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Sheriff Oborevwori as the validly elected governor of Delta state.

Delivering judgment, a 5-Man Panel of Justices led by Justice Inyang Okoro, the Apex Court dismissed the appeal of Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for lacking in merit and for being incompetent.

In a unanimous decision, the panel held that it took time to look at the appeal and held that there was substantial compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act.

The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba had on September 29, upheld Oborevwori as the winner of the March 18, governorship election.

Also, the Court of Appeal affirmed Oborevwori’s election, having dismissed the appeal by the APC on November 24, 2023.

Not satisfied with the dismissal of the petition, Omo-Agege and his party, the APC filed an appeal at the Supreme Court, seeking the setting aside of the judgement of the two lower courts.
