NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE AND IT’S COUNTERPART FROM THE BENIN REPUBLIC, REAFFIRM COMMITMENT TO STRENGTHENING TRADE RELATIONS                                                                   06-03-25
By Sadiq Aminu                                                      The Nigeria Customs Service, Idi – Iroko Command, and its counterpart from the Benin Republic, have reaffirmed their total commitment to strengthening trade relations and combating trans border smuggling along the Idi – Iroko route.

At a strategic meeting held at Idi – Iroko Command of the Nigerian Customs Service, Ogun State, the Officials of both Countries Customs, pledged to implement practical solutions to address challenges hindering smooth trade between the two countries.
The meeting was led by the Customs Area Controller of Ogun One Command ,Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu and Soglonou Jean – Paul, Leader of the Cotonou Customs, Igolo Command, alongside a six man delegation.

Speaking after a closed door session, Comptroller Shuaibu emphasized the importance of Nigeria – Benin trade relations, noting that both countries share a rich history of economic cooperation.
He highlighted the fact that, the meeting provided an opportunity to identify barriers hindering faster trade and renewed engagement with the major Stakeholders, one of which, were the members of the Association of Nigeria Customs Licensed Agents.

Comptroller Shuaibu however assured the participants that, despite the exit of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, from the ECOWAS, trade in the region, remains unaffected due to the Agreement under the African Free Trade Association and the World Trade Organisation, WTO.
