APM DEMANDS BREAKDOWN OF FG’S SUBSIDY SAVINGS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) has criticised the Federal Government’s report on funds saved from petroleum subsidy removal, demanding a detailed account of how the money was generated and spent.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the party said conflicting figures from government officials had raised questions about the actual savings from the subsidy removal.

The APM noted that Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele put the savings at N15.8 trillion, while former Finance Minister Wale Edun had earlier estimated the figure at about $20 billion, equivalent to roughly N26.9 trillion at the time.

The party also questioned the reported allocation of the N15.8 trillion, which it said included N5.4 trillion for the Federal Government and N10.4 trillion shared among states and local governments.

The APM is demanding a clear breakdown of the funds allocated to each state and local government, including the dates of disbursement and how the money was used.

The party urged Nigerians to demand greater transparency and accountability, saying it would promote people-focused governance if elected in 2027.
