NILDS TO ENHANCE CAPACITY OF LEGISLATURES- PROFESSOR SULAIMAN                                                     15-02-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                     The National Institute For Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) says it will continue to enhance the capacity of the Legislatures to promote democracy and good governance in the country.

The Director General of the Institute, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman made the disclosure while presenting a paper tittled”Fostering Legislative Governance through Capacity Building :-Lesson from the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies” organised by the Institute For Legislative Studies, University of Ilorin, in Kwara state.

He said the Institute will improve the Legislatures access to human and research to support their legislative duties.

According to him all hands must be on deck, anchored on the principle of separation of power and checks and balances to overcome the challenges bedeviling the nation.

Professor Sulaiman explained that from 2019 till date the Institute has scale up its programmes and initiated new ones to improve the capacity of the Legislatures.

The Director General noted that the Legislatures as the democratically elected representative of the people has the task of ensuring functional government for the benefit of it’s citizens.

Professor Sulaiman maintained that all challenges affecting legislative governance can be addressed through sustained capacity building.
