NEMA/SEMA ORGANIZES ROAD WALK SENSITIZATION ON FLOODING IN KANO STATE                                                                                                                                            18-08-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has sensitized Kano residents to manage solid waste and prepare against floods in the state.

NEMA Territorial Coordinator, Kano state Office, Dr. Nurudeen ABDULLAHI stated this during a road walk sensitization and public awareness in Kano.

Represented by NEMA Kano Principal Accountant, Rilwan Isma’il he pointed out that the sensitization was aimed at creating awareness on how best to dispose solid waste in Kano metropolis.

“We are here to sensitize the public to manage solid waste and the impact of disposing refuse indiscriminately.”

He noted that one of the causes of flood in the city was blockage of water ways and drainages.

“If you look at this environment very well, you will see that the drainages are being blocked and once there is heavy rainfall, the water will not have its way and definitely becomes flooding because water will also have its way.

The Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Isyaku Abudullahi-Kubarachi, explained that improper dumping of refuse causes cholera, malaria and other communicable diseases.

He urged members of the public to maintain safety at all times and desist from any act of exposing themselves to disaster.

According to him, people should always clear their water ways for the development of Kano.

“The government can not do it alone, we need to clear our drainages and avoid dumping of refuse any how, it will not help the growth of the state”,

Africa 247 correspondent reports that, the sensitization on Proper Solid Waste Management and Flood Preparedness was organized by NEMA in collaboration with Kano SEMA and Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB).
