FG MOVES TO SCRAP JSS, SSS SEPARATION POLICY

The Federal Government has announced plans to phase out the policy separating Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) from Senior Secondary Schools (SSS), saying it has contributed to the growing number of students dropping out before completing secondary education.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, disclosed this in Abuja during the inauguration of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Ministerial Implementation and Monitoring Committee.
He said the current arrangement has created a major gap in the education system, with many students unable to transition to senior secondary school due to inadequate facilities. According to him, the proposal to abolish the policy will be presented at the next meeting of the National Council on Education.
The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Aisha Garba, said the government was also expanding access to quality education through its Smart Schools and other initiatives across the country.
