NATCA THREATENS NATIONWIDE STRIKE OVER IGR DEDUCTIONS 14-09-24
By Sadiq Aminu The Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) has threatened a nationwide strike if the ongoing 50% deduction from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of aviation agencies is not reversed.
In a statement released today, NATCA President, Mr. Abayomi Agoro, expressed deep concern over the policy’s negative impact on the safety and efficiency of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
He highlighted that the financial constraints imposed by the deductions are hindering the agencies’ ability to function effectively, there by jeopardizing the safety of air travel.
NATCA has accused the government of failing to address the critical issues affecting the aviation sector, and has warned that the continued deduction of IGR could lead to a catastrophic incident.
The association has also stated that it will not be held responsible for any safety-related issues that may arise due to the financial constraints.
According to Mr. Agoro, if government fails to accede to their demand, he announced that, air traffic controllers will embark on a nationwide strike starting from 12:00 AM on September 18, 2024, unless the government reverses the IGR deduction policy.
The association has called on the Federal Government to take immediate steps to address the financial challenges facing the aviation sector and ensure the safety and security of Nigerian airspace.
