ANAMBRA RESIDENTS REACT TO REMOVAL OF REAL-TIME RESULT UPLOAD

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Some residents of Anambra State have continued to express mixed reactions to the Nigerian Senate’s removal of the real-time upload of election results in the amended Electoral Act Bill 2026.

While many describe the decision as a setback that could weaken transparency and discourage voter participation, others argue that lawmakers acted in what they believe is the best interest of the country. Critics insist that real-time transmission builds trust, limits manipulation, and strengthens electoral credibility, especially after lessons from past elections.

Supporters of the Senate’s decision, however, maintain that allowing electoral authorities flexibility helps avoid disputes linked to technical or network failures and reduces the risk of post-election crises.

The debate has continued to generate strong public reactions, reflecting deep concerns about accountability, confidence in elections, and Nigeria’s democratic process.
