HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE PLEDGES TO PUT ARMY ON PROPER PEDESTAL                                                                                            07-11-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                      The House of Representatives Committee on Army has pledged its commitment to ensure that the Nigerian Army is placed on a pedestal to tackle the security challenges facing the country.

The Chairman of the committee Mr Abdullahi Mamudu, who stated this at the inauguration of the Committee, said they have developed a four-year work plan that will be judiciously followed within specific periods in order to achieve the objective.

“The House Committee on Army is one the Standing Committees of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly by virtue of the power conferred in Section 62 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and Order XVIII B Rule 131, Ninth Edition, Standing Order of the House of Representatives, 2016.

“The Legislature is the only institution that distinguishes democracy from other forms of government. In most democracies, the Military and the Parliaments have been working together, that is what we also hope to achieve.

He stated that the committee oversight mandate includes, the Nigerian Army, Ammunition Depots, Forts, Arsenal, reservations and establishments.

Others according to him include Development projects of the Nigerian Army, Army Barracks, Landed property and Annual Budget estimates of the Army.

Mamudu added that the scope of the committee’s activities also include oversight of the Nigerian Army recruitment exercise.
