PRESIDENT TINUBU COMMITTED TO IMPROVING AGRICULTURE: AGRICULTURE MINISTER                                                                                   18-01-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                     The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, says President Bola Tinubu, was committed to improving agriculture and attaining food security in the country inline with his 8 points Agenda.

The Minister stated this, at the launching of the Kebbi Governor’s Agricultural programme, “Kaura Agricultural Development and Growth Agenda” (KADAGE) in Suru Local Government Area of the state.

The Minister said, President Tinubu has made food security number one item in his 8-points agenda through improvement of agricultural production as means of wealth creation and poverty eradication.

He pointed out that, the President is concerned about the capacity of farmers to acquire agricultural inputs and has now began a process to accelerate access to such inputs by farmers.

Senator Kyari, informed the gathering that Governor Nasir Idris was at his ministry in Abuja to discuss ways of improving agricultural production in the state through which he procured 6,000 solar powered water pumps and other inputs for distribution to farmers so as to boost irrigation farming in the state.

The Minister observed that, year-round farming would boost crop cultivation, increase job opportunities, reduce poverty, de-escalate food inflation and enhance inclusivity.

The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, said his administration would distribute 12,000 solar powered water pumps, commencing with the 6,000 distributed to farmers for them to boost agricultural production.

He stated that, the state government would procure 20,000 units of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered water pumps as a back-up to the solar pumps to increase the number of benefiting farmers in the state.

The Governor however, warned the beneficiaries not to sell the items saying, government would arrest and prosecute any body found trading off the pumps.

He directed all heads of security agencies including vigilante groups to monitor the distribution of the items and take necessary action on violators.
