REPS URGE QUICK PAYMENT OF CONTRACTORS’ FUNDS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement has urged the Accountant General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, to fast-track the payment of contractors owed by the government.

Committee Chairman, Unyime Idem, raised concerns over delays and non-payment for completed projects in the last two years, noting that several petitions and protests had been received from aggrieved contractors.

He said the committee had intervened repeatedly to calm tensions, while demanding that the Accountant General submit documents within seven days to clarify alleged irregularities in contract awards between 2023 and 2025.

In response, Ogunjimi admitted that some contracts were awarded without financial backing, breaching procurement rules, but assured that efforts were underway to settle verified payments soon.
