KANO ASSEMBLY EXTENDS SUSPENSION OF THREE LG CHAIRMEN BY THREE MONTHS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Kano State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of the chairmen of Rogo, Bagwai and Bebeji Local Government Areas by another three months to allow an investigative committee to conclude its probe into allegations against them.

The extension was approved during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.

The Majority Leader and Chairman of the investigative committee, Lawan Hussaini Dala, said the additional time was necessary for the committee to complete its investigation and submit its findings to the House.

The chairmen were initially suspended following petitions alleging violations of due process and administrative procedures.

Meanwhile, the Assembly has called on the Kano State Government to establish an agro-processing industry in either Bagwai or Shanono Local Government Area to boost agricultural production and economic activities.

The motion, moved by the member representing Shanono Constituency, Ali Lawan Alhassan, highlighted the agricultural potential of the two areas and the need to reduce post-harvest losses, particularly among farmers producing perishable crops such as tomatoes.

The lawmakers urged the state government to support the proposed project to create opportunities for farmers, promote food security and stimulate economic development.
