NEPZA, CROSS RIVER GOVERNMENT TO REVAMP TINAPA FREE TRADE ZONE                                                              21-01-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                    Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) and the Cross River State Government have agreed to revive the moribund Tinapa Free Trade Zone owned by the state.

The agreement was reached during a visit by NEPZA’s Managing Director, Dr Olufemi Ogunyemi to Governor Bassey Otu in Calabar.

According to a statement signed by the Head, Corporate Communications of the agency, Dr Martins Odeh, the NEPZA Managing Director, solicited the state government’s intervention on the activities of unwanted tax operators in the state which impugns on the incentives the NEPZA Act granted freezone operators and enterprises within the zones.

Governor Otu, said he was optimistic in the agreement with NEPZA as the state was strategising for Tinapa and Obudu Cattle Ranch to meet up with global standards.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Peter Odey however appealed to NEPZA to review the accumulated unpaid Tinapa Licence Renewal fees to enable the state direct its fund toward redeveloping the zone which was vandalised during the “End Sars” protests.
