By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, has described the Nigerian Army as a symbol of patriotism, resilience and unwavering commitment to national service.

Speaking at a special Juma’at prayer to mark the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL 2026) in Gusau, the COAS commended officers and soldiers for their sacrifices in tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security threats across the country.

He said the Army remains committed to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty while improving troop welfare, enhancing operational capacity and building a more professional and combat-ready force.

The army chief also paid tribute to fallen soldiers and urged personnel to remain dedicated to the core values of discipline, loyalty, integrity and professionalism.
