COURT ADJOURNS EX-KWARA GOVERNOR’S N5.78BN FRAUD TRIAL

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

A Kwara State High Court has adjourned the alleged N5.78 billion fraud trial involving former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and former Finance Commissioner Ademola Banu to July 27 for further cross-examination of a prosecution witness.

The defendants are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over the alleged diversion of funds belonging to the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

During proceedings, a prosecution witness told the court that approval was granted for a loan from SUBEB funds to pay workers’ salaries, while the defence sought additional documents for further questioning.
The court subsequently fixed July 27 for the continuation of the trial.
