KWARA STATE FIRE SERVICE SAVES BUILDING FROM DESTRUCTION                                                                          13-06-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                             Kwara State Fire Service says it has successfully saved a building consisting of three (3) units of 3-bedroom apartments from destruction located behind the Kwara State House of Assembly in the Asa-Dam area of Ilorin.

In a statement the Head media and publicity of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle says upon receipt of the distress call the fire crew immediately mobilized and arrived at the scene to discover that the fire originated from a building consisting of three (3) units of 3-bedroom apartments.

According to it the incident was triggered when a 33kVA transmission line fell on a plastic overhead water tank within the premises, resulting in an eruption of fire.

It says the firefighters immediately commenced firefighting operations to contain the fire and prevent further destruction.

It explains that during the operation, the fire fighters encountered a significant challenge with the continued power supply from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), which posed a serious safety risk and hindered firefighting efforts.

It notes that upon successful cut off of power supply to the area, the crew was able to fully extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading.

Meanwhile, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, advised residents and property developers to avoid constructing buildings close to or directly beneath transmission lines, adding that the practice poses a grave danger to lives and property.
