By Sadiq Aminu                                                       At least 33,000 persons are estimated to have contracted HIV/AIDS virus in Kwara state.

The State deputy governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi, who is also the chairman, Kwara State AIDS Control Agency (KWASACA), made the disclosure while speaking at an event to commemorate World AIDS Day, in Ilorin.

He said the state is among the low HIV burden in the country with a prevalence rate of one percent.

Mr Àlabi noted that it is more expensive to allow HIV epidemic fester for much longer as a state.

He maintained that the peculiarity of some terrains in the state, with many hard-to-reach areas, had made it a herculean task to achieve
the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets in the state.
