Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has directed security agencies to search for missing persons and establish the exact number of casualties following a deadly attack on Binnari community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.
The governor gave the directive during an emergency security meeting in Jalingo, where he expressed condolences to the affected community and called for improved intelligence gathering and cooperation among security agencies.
Kefas also urged traditional rulers, community leaders, youths and farmers to provide credible information to security operatives. He warned against spreading unverified reports that could heighten tension.
The Commissioner of Police, Edwin Ogbeghagha, said security agencies had been directed to prevent further attacks in Karim Lamido and neighbouring communities.
The police had earlier reported that 58 people were killed in the attack, including 15 who reportedly drowned while fleeing. Authorities said efforts were ongoing to confirm the casualty figures and identify the deceased.
