The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to equal educational opportunities and the empowerment of female students across Nigeria.
She made this known in Abuja at a conference of the National Association of Nigerian Female Students, where she highlighted government initiatives, including the student loan scheme, aimed at improving access to education regardless of background.
The minister urged female students to explore economic opportunities in agriculture, mobile businesses, the gas sector and online ventures. She also stressed the need to recognise unpaid care work performed by women and strengthen efforts to protect children.
The association’s president, Precious Peter, said the conference provided a platform to address challenges facing female students, including campus safety, gender-based violence, school retention and access to economic opportunities. The association also unveiled a magazine to promote students’ achievements, mentorship, entrepreneurship and advocacy.
The conference featured the election of new national executives, with Comrade Okwuchukwu Joy emerging as the association’s new president.
