The House of Representatives has exonerated the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Executive Vice President, Dr Mumuni Dangazau, of money laundering allegations following an investigation into petitions submitted by the Coalition for Transparency and Accountability in Nigeria’s Petroleum Sector (CTANPS).
The Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Ikenga Ugochinyere, said the investigation highlighted the importance of evidence-based oversight, transparency and accountability in the petroleum industry.
He stressed that legislative investigations must be impartial and based on verifiable facts to prevent individuals from being subjected to unsubstantiated allegations.
Ugochinyere also acknowledged NNPCL’s efforts to improve petroleum distribution and promote alternative energy sources, including the provision of more than 35 compressed natural gas-powered hybrid buses to the Presidential Initiative on CNG.
He reaffirmed the House’s commitment to effective oversight of the petroleum sector, with a focus on protecting public resources and improving fuel availability, affordability and service delivery.
The investigation was conducted by an ad hoc subcommittee constituted by the House to examine the allegations.
