By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the transmission of a bill to the State House of Assembly seeking to ban same-sex marriage and other practices deemed immoral.

Speaking after the State Executive Council meeting, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Islamic values and cultural heritage, stressing that his administration will not compromise on issues of faith and morality.

If passed, the law will outlaw same-sex marriage and certain practices considered forbidden under Islamic law, with offenders facing strict penalties.

Governor Yusuf expressed confidence that lawmakers will give the bill priority, describing it as vital to safeguarding Kano’s moral integrity.
