FG, POLICE LAUNCH SAFE SCHOOLS INITIATIVE IN LAGOS……………..

The Federal Government and Nigeria Police Force have launched the Safe Schools Initiative in Lagos to boost security in learning environments.
Speaking at the launch, Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, described the move as a vital step to protect students and schools from rising threats. He called for stronger collaboration between police, educators, parents, and local communities.
“Our schools must be safe spaces for learning,” he said, urging school owners to adopt safety policies and engage directly with the newly established Schools Protection Squad (SPS).
Representing the Inspector-General of Police, AIG Adegoke Fayoade stressed the urgency of the initiative due to increasing school attacks across the country. He said officers have been directed to work with school leaders and communities to create localized safety plans.
Also speaking, CP Abayomi Shogunle outlined national efforts, including a 24/7 emergency response center and a 3-year financing plan for school security (2023–2026). Lagos, he said, is part of the pilot phase.
Lagos Education Commissioner, Jamiu Alli Balogun, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to safer schools, especially for girls and vulnerable students.
The event ended with a call for joint efforts from all sectors to protect education and reduce the number of out-of-school children.
