SAVANNAH STATE AGITATION GAINS MOMENTUM AT NORTH EAST PUBLIC HEARING………….

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The push for the creation of Savannah State out of present-day Borno State received major support at the North East Zonal Senate Public Hearing on constitutional review, held at the University of Maiduguri.

Representing the Senate Committee Chairman, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno praised the peaceful turnout and assured participants that their demands—including state creation, devolution of power, local government autonomy, and security restructuring—will be considered.

Governor Zulum, represented by Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur, declared support for the process and promised state backing for inclusive governance.

Ambassador Dauda Danladi, leading the Southern Borno Development Association, submitted the formal request for Savannah State on behalf of LGAs including Askira/Uba, Bayo, Biu, Chibok, Damboa, Gwoza, Hawul, Kwaya-Kusar, and Shani.

Top lawmakers like Senators Ahmed Lawan, Mohammed Ndume, Abdul Ningi, and Kaka Shehu Lawan threw their weight behind the demand, vowing to support the long-awaited dream.
