NCS URGES CARDIOVASCULAR PREVENTION IN PRIMARY HEALTHCARES

The Nigerian Cardiac Society (NCS) has urged government and stakeholders to integrate cardiovascular disease prevention into Nigeria’s primary healthcare system to curb the growing burden of heart-related illnesses.
Speaking at the Society’s 54th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference in Abuja, NCS President, Prof. Augustine Odili, warned that cardiovascular diseases are rising steadily in Nigeria and Africa. He stressed the need for preventive care, innovative approaches like telemedicine, and stronger health insurance to make treatment affordable.
Other experts, including Prof. Fatima Kyari of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and Prof. Elijah Ogola of the Pan-African Society of Cardiology, highlighted the role of technology, partnerships, and research in improving heart health across the continent.
The conference drew global and local health experts to discuss cost-effective solutions and innovations for tackling cardiovascular diseases in Africa.
