CSO DEMANDS PROBE INTO POLICE WITHDRAWAL AT KANO INDEPENDENCE DAY

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

A civil society group, One Kano Agenda, has urged the Federal Government to investigate the sudden withdrawal of police personnel during Kano’s Independence Day celebration.

Convener, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim Yakasai, said the 65th anniversary parade was disrupted just 30 minutes before it began, unlike other states that celebrated in full. He described the act as a blow to Kano’s dignity and to the spirit of national unity.

Yakasai stressed that Independence Day is a time to honor Nigeria’s founding fathers, reflect on unity, and inspire future generations. He warned against politicizing security agencies, calling instead for professionalism, fairness, and trust in national institutions.

Despite the disruption, he praised Kano citizens for their resilience, saying their perseverance proved the true spirit of independence lies in unity and determination. He urged Nigerians to defend independence as a daily commitment to justice and peace.
