The National Human Rights Commission has stressed the need for stronger collaboration among all sectors to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens.
During a walk in Jos to mark International Human Rights Day, the Executive Secretary, Dr. Tony Ojukwu, represented by Plateau State Coordinator Kyenpiya Mafuyai, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to defending human rights despite challenges.
The event also celebrated 30 years of the Commission’s service since its establishment in 1995. Participants marched from Miango Junction to Zarmaganda Roundabout, creating awareness with music and community support.
Plateau State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Caroline Dafur, said the government remains dedicated to upholding human dignity, while Gender and Equal Opportunities Chairperson, Olivia Dazyem, praised ongoing efforts to curb abuses and discrimination.
This year’s theme, “Our Everyday Essentials,” highlights dignity, equality, and justice as fundamental rights in daily life.
