PDP LITIGATION WILL END AMICABLY — OLAWEPO HASHIM

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has expressed confidence that the ongoing court case involving a faction of the party will soon be resolved peacefully. He spoke with journalists during a religious convention in Lafia, Nasarawa State, saying efforts are underway for an out-of-court settlement to prevent a prolonged legal battle that could harm the party.

Dr. Olawepo-Hashim stressed that as the general elections approach, the PDP must urgently resolve its internal issues to remain strong and protect Nigeria’s democracy. He noted that a healthy democracy depends on a vibrant opposition and warned against Nigeria drifting towards a one-party system.

He also said recent defections from the PDP to the ruling APC were driven by poor governance records and fear of anti-graft agencies.
According to him, the 2027 elections will be decided by voters rather than political parties, as Nigerians are now more aware of their rights and electoral power.
