WASA 2025: ARMY RECORDS MAJOR GAINS AS BANDITRY DECLINES IN ZAMFARA

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Nigerian Army has recorded significant progress in the fight against banditry in Zamfara State, with criminal activities greatly reduced across key routes in the state.

The Commander of 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Gusau, Brigadier General Mustapha Jimmoh, disclosed this after the 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA) held at the Army Cantonment in Gusau. He said sustained military operations have made major highways, including the Funtua–Gusau–Sokoto road, safer for commuters, while efforts continue to restore lasting peace.

Brigadier General Jimmoh noted that the improved security situation reflects the commitment of troops and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with useful information, stressing that community cooperation remains vital.

He also described WASA as a tradition that boosts morale, unity, and professionalism within the Army, while celebrating the dedication and achievements of officers and soldiers over the year.

The Zamfara State Government commended the Army for its role in improving security and reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the military to sustain peace in the state.
