NCC ORDERS TELCOS TO COMPENSATE USERS FOR POOR NETWORK

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Nigerian Communications Commission has directed telecom operators to compensate subscribers whenever network quality falls below required standards in specific areas.

The Commission says users shouldn’t bear the cost of service failures. Under the new rule, operators must give affected customers airtime credits based on their usage when quality of service targets are not met.

This move shifts focus from just fining companies to directly protecting consumers, while pushing operators to improve network reliability and performance.

The NCC also wants infrastructure providers to reinvest fines into stronger systems, ensuring better coverage and service delivery across the country.
