The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has assured residents of its readiness to conduct the October 17, 2026 Local Government elections in a peaceful, transparent and credible manner.
The commission’s chairman, Mamman Nda Eri, gave the assurance when the Kogi State House of Assembly Committee on the State Independent Electoral Commission visited KOSIEC to assess its preparations for the elections.
Eri said the commission had intensified the training of electoral officials and was making arrangements for the deployment of Returning Officers and the secure distribution of sensitive electoral materials.
He said KOSIEC was also working to ensure that women, youths and persons living with disabilities participate fully in the electoral process.
According to him, the commission has been engaging political parties, civil society organisations, traditional institutions and security agencies to promote a peaceful election.
Eri added that voter education had been expanded, while KOSIEC had launched its official website, www.kosiec.org, to provide residents with electoral information and updates.
The committee chairman, Suleiman Abdulrazak, said the visit was part of the Assembly’s oversight responsibility. He commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for supporting KOSIEC with vehicles, facility renovations and other interventions.
Eri thanked the state government for its support and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to professionalism, impartiality and accountability during the elections.
