BAYERO NIVERSITY: BUK VICE CHANCELLOR SECURE SCHOLARSHIP FOR………

The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano(BUK), Professor Sagir Adamu-Abbas, said the university has secured scholarship for 500 students,through philanthropists and politicians.

Professor Adamu Abbas, made the disclosure while recieving the leadership of NUJ Kano Correspondents Chapel in his office.

According to him, BUK is aware of the condition, where most people are not financially comfortable saying that, it took them over six months, to come up with a figure which is the minimum required to provide services to the students.

Professor Sagir highlighted that, the increment on the registration fees, was not to make money but rather to ensure smooth running of the institution.

He further explained that, the University also introduced welfare packages for its staff, such as non interest loan from BUK Micro Finance Bank payable within six months.

“Food stuffs, shuttle buses, bicycle loans for junior staff payable within nine months”

The vice chancellor highlighted that, the cost of running the university is beyond imagination, as they spent over N100 million as running cost monthly.

“I consider journalists important and relevant to the development of any nation” the VC said

He also said that the management of the University will review the deadline of closure for the 2023/2024 academic session registration.

Earlier in his remarks, Kano State Chairman NUJ CorrespondentS Chapel, Alhaji Aminu Garko, commended BUK’s efforts for providing education in Nigeria.

“We talk of BUK because of the reality on ground where personalities produced by the institution are greatly contributing to the development of the country.

He reiterated the chapels commitment in partnering with BUK, by promoting and dessiminating news aimed, at portraying the good work to attract more people to tap the resources provided by the institution.

Recall that, few days ago the national association of Kano state students, NAKKS appealed to Northern governors, philanthropists and politicians to assist BUK students by paying their registration fees.
