LASTMA IMPOUNDS 84 VEHICLES DURING LAGOS ENFORCEMENT

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has impounded 84 commercial and private vehicles for various traffic violations during an enforcement operation across the state.
The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos.
He said the operation was carried out at Idumota, Iddo, Ijora-Olopa, Costain and Onipanu to restore order and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
Bakare-Oki said the agency was particularly concerned about commercial buses driving against traffic and reversing along the one-way route from Iddo to Idumota through Carter Bridge, warning that the practice could result in serious accidents and loss of lives.
The enforcement exercise was met with resistance in some areas, with several LASTMA officials reportedly assaulted and injured. The agency also said some individuals who attacked its personnel and damaged operational vehicles were arrested.
The LASTMA general manager urged motorists and commercial transport operators to avoid one-way driving, dangerous reversing, illegal parking, indiscriminate loading and the use of under-bridge spaces and road setbacks as illegal garages.
He said the agency would continue enforcement operations across Lagos and warned that motorists who violate traffic laws would face appropriate sanctions.
