First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been decorated as the Grand Patron of the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), scheduled to hold in Abuja from November 2 to 7.
She received the honour when the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria visited her office in Abuja to seek national support for the continental women’s amateur golf championship.
Senator Tinubu commended the association for securing the hosting rights and expressed support for its Girls in Golf Legacy Project, which aims to mentor and develop 300 girls in the sport.
She said the initiative could produce future world champions, stressing the importance of discipline, commitment and dedication to achieving excellence.
The First Lady also noted that the championship could boost tourism and economic activity as Nigeria prepares to host women golfers from about 30 countries.
The President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, Dr Lami Onayi Ahmed, requested Senator Tinubu’s endorsement and participation in the opening ceremony and ceremonial tee-off.
The First Lady later marked her new role with a symbolic tee-off using a golf practice kit in her office.
Nigeria secured the hosting rights in Morocco after a competitive bid. The 2026 edition will be the third time the country hosts the continental tournament.
