The Federal Government has unveiled a five-year National Malaria Strategic Plan aimed at reducing malaria cases and deaths across Nigeria by 2030 through increased funding, targeted interventions and stronger partnerships.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, announced this in Abuja during the launch of the 2025 Nigeria Malaria Indicator Survey Report and the 2026–2030 National Malaria Strategic Plan.

Represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Daju Kachallom, the minister said the documents would guide policymaking, resource allocation and efforts to improve malaria prevention and treatment nationwide.

The National Coordinator of the National Malaria Elimination Programme, Dr Nnenna Ogbulafor, said the survey findings would help identify areas with high malaria rates and guide the distribution of interventions based on local needs.

She urged state governments to increase domestic funding, strengthen partnerships and take greater responsibility for implementing malaria control programmes.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr Abubakar Muhammed, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to providing reliable demographic and health data to support evidence-based decisions.

The Federal Government called on state governments, development partners, the private sector and communities to support the plan’s implementation to reduce the country’s malaria burden by 2030.
