4 MOTORCYCLE RUDDERS KILLED, 5 OTHERS INJURED IN ILORIN                                                                          19-10-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                         At least four Motorcycle ridders popularly known as “Okada” were reportedly crushed to death by a moving vehicle of the Nigeria Correctional Service at Oja Oba area of Ilorin metropolis.

Five others were also injured by the vehicles conveying inmates to court to attend to their various case which was said to have been driven against the traffic on a high speed when the incident occurred .

An eyewitness told newsmen that the Nigeria Correctional Service vehicle that was driven against the traffic also crushed and killed another motorcycle ridder along Niger road in Ilorin while trying to escape mob action.

He said the angry mob who were disenchanted with the happening attacked and vandalised the bus escorting the vehicle conveying the inmates.

Addressing newsmen on the incident, the zonal spokesman of motorcycle ridders union in Kwara state ,AbdulAkeem Sulaiman who led a protest by the Okada ridders at Oja Oba said those killed in the accident were out in search of their means of livelihood to feed their families.

Sulaiman appealed to the authority of the Nigeria Correctional Service and state government to intervene in the matter and ensure Justice is done.

Confirming the incident the spokesman ,Kwara state Police Command, SP Ajayi Okasanmi said the police would take necessary steps to ensure Justice is done to those affected in the incident.
