NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS EXTENDS ULTIMATUM, SUSPENDS PROTEST 27-02-24
By Sadiq Aminu The National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress has extended its ultimatum by 14days which now expires on the 13th of March, 2024 within which the Government is expected to implement all the earlier agreement of the 2nd day of October, 2023.
The NEC in Session stated this in a communique issued NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero and Acting General Secretary of NLC, Comrade Ismail Bello after their meeting on Tuesday evening.
This development is to give the government opportunity to take action on other demands presented in letter during the nationwide protest.
The Union says it will decide on further lines of action if on the expiration of the 14days, Government refuses to comply with the demands as contained in the ultimatum.
The NEC-in-session therefore reviewed the execution of the first day of the nationwide protest to assess its effectiveness and take decision and protect Nigerian workers from the increasing scourge of hardship.
The National Executive Council maintained that NLC would to continue defend and promote the interests and desires of Nigerian workers and the downtrodden masses.
The NEC agreed to suspend street action for the second day of the Protest having achieved overwhelming success thus attained the key objectives of the 2-day protest on the first day.
The communique says Nationwide action continues on Wednesday with simultaneous Press Conferences across all the states of the federation by the state Councils of the Congress including the National Headquarters.
The National Executive Council of Congress in session had ordered a 2-Day Nationwide Protest to join Nigerians in expressing displeasure over the suffering and hunger facing the masses and workers as a result of hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
