HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DEMAND PROBE OF AIR FORCE BASE MAKURDI IN BENUE ATTACK                                                                                                     12-03-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                       House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to Investigate Nigerian Air force Base in Markudi and joint military Security Task Force in Benue State for their failure to respond to distress calls during an Attack in Gwer West Local Government Area of the State on the 7th of March that resulted to death of over forty people.
In a motion of urgent Public Importance, by the member representing Gwer East, Gwer West Federal Constituency of Benue State Mr. Austin Achado, told the House that within the three hours the attack lasted no security agencies came to the aid of the victims despite distress calls put through to them.

The House noted that the Nigeria Air force base Markudi is less than 30 kilometers from the attacked community but failed to respond to distress calls to counter the attackers.
According to Mr. Achado, the security personnel only came 20 hours after the attackers had left.
Adopting the motion, the House urged the Joint Military Security Task Force in Benue State to initiate and coordinate operations to flush out the Bandits and other criminal groups so as to guarantee farming activities in the affected areas and Benue State in General.

The House also directed NEMA to immediately send relief materials to the affected Communities to assuage the difficulties being faced by the affected people.
The House also mandated its committees on Defense and Police Affairs to investigate the deplorable conditions that led to the attacks in several communities in Benue State.
