NANNM APPEALS TO FG TO TAKE PROACTIVE MEASURES AND INVEST MORE ON WOMEN IN HEALTH SECTOR                                                         21-03-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                           The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, has appealed to the federal government to take proactive measures and invest more on women in the health sector, to avoid losing them to brain drain.

The National Chairperson of the Association, Dr. Deborah Yusuf, stated this during a Press Conference to mark the International Women’s Day in Abuja.

Dr. Yusuf expressed worry on the persistent barriers and inequality that women face in the society adding that nurses should be recognised as integral part of healthcare delivery system.

She further called on female nurses to join politics to enable them to develop policies and influence decisions that would favour the association.

The National Secretary, NANNM Headquarters, Oferanoluwa Toyin-Anike said the School of Nursing produces over 15,000 graduates and advocated free trainings, accommodations and automatic employment for nurses.

Other stakeholders called for the inclusion of women in all sectors of the economy for national growth and development.

The theme for this year’s celebration is inspired inclusion.
