HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES BACK DANGOTE’S INDUSTRIALIZATION STRIDE                                                                       29-08-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                               Members of the House of Representatives have commended the economic impact of Dangote Industries on Nigeria.

Speaking during a visit to the Dangote Cement company in Obajana Kogi State, Chairman, House Committee on Solid Minerals, Mr. Gaza Jonathan Gbefwi, emphasized the need for collaboration between Nigeria’s political leaders and investors to drive the country’s industrialization.

Mr. Gbefwi while noting that the cement company has paved way with its substantial investments, informed that the visit by the joint subcommittee on Solid Minerals and Commerce was partly aimed at investigating the reasons behind the current cement prices and seeking solutions.

Responding to the visiting lawmakers, Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement Plc, Mr. Arvind Pathak, stated that cement inputs have been affected by the exchange rate except limestone which is found in Nigeria.

Some of these inputs, according to him include: machineries, spare parts, gas and Gypsum which is one of the raw materials.

Mr. Pathak explained that the rise and instability in foreign exchange rates have been significant factors contributing to the current prices of cement products.

The Plant Director, Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana, further explained that the transport section of the Cement company has introduced CNG trucks to its fleet.

The lawmakers also visited the Dangote Plant at Okpella Edo State.
