GENDER BASED VIOLENCE ORGANIZED 3 DAYS WORKSHOP IN KANO…..

Participants of a 3 day workshop on curbing gender based violence (GBV), in Kano have called on government, to put modalities in place, to ensure perpetrators are brought to book.
Speaking to Radio Nigeria, the village head of Gandun Albasa, Kano municipal local government area, Engineer Alkasim Yakubu explained that, the menace is becoming rampant in the society.
He stressed that, protection is very important, as it would go a long way in mitigating rape, and other societal vices.
Also speaking,the village head of Gama, Nasarawa local government area,Alhaji Rabiu pointed out that, he reported a rape case in his domain, to seek for justice for the survivor.
He stressed that, the training has widened his scope on GBV cases, and called for sustainability.
Speaking on GBV experienced by people living with special needs (PWDs), the chairman association of people living with physical disabilities,Yahaya .A.Yahaya maintained that, they recieve complaints from their members in rural areas, where they take the necessary action.
Supervisory councillor women affairs, Nasarawa local government area Kano, Hajiya Hauwa Abdullahi Muhammad Gawuna, said the LGA prioritize issues regarding women and children
Earlier in her remarks,the executive director,Adolescent health information Projects (AHIP), Hajiya Mairo Bello pointed out that, 22 participants were selected from 4 local government areas.
She stressed that, another set would begin their 3 day training immediately,saying that, they would do everything possible to curtail the menace of GBV through enlightment campaigns,advocacy and Capacity building.
She advised the public, to be more vigilant and report any person suspected of GBV for proper action.
Radio Nigeria reports that, the event tagged “fostering change: Strengthening gender based violence, Prevention and response for combating sexual exploitation,abuse and harrasment in Kano state” was organized by AHIP in collaboration with AGILE.
The training witnessed large turn out of officials from NSCDC,Hisbah, Religious and traditional leaders,politicians,PWDs,CBOs, Parents and stakeholders in the education sector, among others.
