LAW MAKING: ENSURE GOOD GOVERNANCE FOR ACCOUNTABILITY AND CONFIDENCE, SAYS SPEAKER 24-09-23
By Sadiq Aminu Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas has called on law makers at all levels to pay more attention to the provision of good governance and be open to accountability at all times to engender the confidence of the people.
Dr Abbas made the call in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State during the flag off ceremony of empowerment programme of the Member Representing Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and Wamba Federal Constituency of the State .
The empowerment scheme which is tagged Sabon Salo in Hausa meaning New Dawn is the initiative of the Member Representing Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and Wamba Federal Constituency Mr Jeremiah Umaru to improve the living condition of people of the zone especially the orphans, widows and the less privileged in the areas of education, health, skills acquisition and infrastructure.
At the inauguration of the disbursement of the equipment, The Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr Tajudeen Abbas said prevailing economic realities in all parts of the country calls for leaders to be in close touch with the people and be sensitive to their needs at all times.
The Speaker represented by the Member Representing Dass, Bogoro, Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency of Bauchi State Mr Jaafaru Leko stated that Mr Jeremiah Umaru was among the top ten new entrant law makers of the House of Representatives who had over the last 100 days been engaged in providing essential social services to their people.
The Member Representing Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and Wamba Federal Constituency Mr Jeremiah Umaru explained that the Sabon Salo initiative was borne out of his desire to reduce the rate of poverty in the Constituency which according him, had been on the rise .
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State who stressed the need for elected leaders to focus on governance and provision of social services devoid of party politics commended the law maker for his foresight of reciprocating the mandate given to him by the people.
Items distributed to over 350 beneficiaries from the three Local Government Areas that make up the federal constituency include vehicles, grinding and sewing machines, electricity transformers and scholarships for over one hundred students from secondary and tertiary institutions.
