JUMMA’AT LECTURE: SULTAN APPEALS TO NLC TO SHELVE PLANNED STRIKE AND EMBRACE DIALOGUE 29-09-23
By Sadiq Aminu The President General Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has appealed to the Organised Labour to shelve their planned nation wide strike to protest the current hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.
The Sultan who made the call in Abuja during a public Jumma’at Lecture organised as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary said the planned indefinite strike will only worsen the situation of the already impoverished masses.
The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar who noted that the economic hardship being faced by citizens is not peculiar to Nigeria, however called on the leaders to do their best to address the myriads of challenges facing the country.
The Sultan emphasized the need for Nigerians to give the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration a chance to prove what it has for the country.
In a lecture titled the Renewed hope in the face of Socio-economic Challenge in Nigeria:Islamic Model. A Professor of Islamic Studies from the University of Abuja, Lukman Zakariya said for citizens to benefit from the renewed hope agenda of the current administration, the people must develop a positive attitude toward the country.The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr. George Akume called on the organised Labour to listen to the voices of reason, noting that the administration renewed hope struggle would be fulfilled.
The president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu represented by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibril gave an assurance that his administration was working hard to bring Succour to the generality of citizens.
The Chairman National Mosque Management Board and, Etsu Nupe Dr Yahaya Abubakar prayed Allah for continuous guidance and unity of the country.
