NASARAWA STATE PARLIAMENTARY WORKERS SHUT DOWN STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PROTEST OVER AUTONOMY                                                                                                        30-10-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                        Parliamentary workers in Nasarawa State have shut down the State House of Assembly following a peaceful protest over non implementation of financial autonomy to the legislative arm of the government.

The State Chairman of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, Comrade Suleiman Oshafu in an interview with Africa 247 in Lafia, said the decision to shut down the state House of Assembly complex was in compliance with the nationwide indefinite strike declared by the national body of the association.

He stated that the State House of Assembly complex would remain closed until the state governor commences full implementation of financial independence of the legislative arm of the government.

Comrade Oshafu noted that Parliamentary workers in the State House of Assembly have been passing through difficult times including poor welfare due to lack of financial independence.

Comrade Oshafu called on the parliamentary workers to be steadfast, peaceful and committed to the course to ensure better working conditions.

At the time of filing this report security personnel were drafted to the assembly complex to curtail any possible breakdown of law and order.
