SANWO-OLU OPENS YABA T-SHAPED OVERPASS; WARNS TRADERS AND MOTORISTS AGAINST ILLEGAL USE                                                          02-11-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                         Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has inaugurated the Yaba T-shaped overpass which takes traffic from Murtala Muhammad Way into Ojuelegba road.

The Yaba bridge Is one of the five bridges designed for the Red Line alignment to eliminate vehicular, pedestrian and train traffic interaction.

At the inauguration, Governor Sanwo-olu, who expressed delight on the completion of the road, said the project would reduce travel time, provide aesthetically pleasant environment, and improve the safety of lives and property in Yaba and Ojuelegba axis.

The Governor urged the residents especially community leaders to take ownership of the project which was built with tax payers’ money and make judicious use of it to boost socio economic activities and increase IGR in the State.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu has warned against illegal trading on the road at Yaba especially on the newly opened Yaba T-shaped overpass.

Governor Sanwo-olu also cautioned commercial motorists against parking indiscriminately on the road thereby constituting nuisance on the road.

He said that security operatives had been directed to enforce traffic laws on that road and bring any violator to book to serve as deterrent to others.

The Governor who assured residents of the state of more dividends of democracy hinted that he has signed the commencement of the second phase of the blue rail line from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, reiterated the commitment of the government to provision of more alternative means of transportation for residents to ensure free vehicular movement across the five Divisions of the state.

Earlier, the Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Transportation Authority, LAMATA, Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, said the bridge would decongest traffic on Yaba road and ensure smooth vehicular movement daily.

Mrs Akinajo, who noted that two more bridges at Ikeja and Ebute Metta would be opened for the public soon, promised that the Mushin bridge would be completed before the end of this year.

The Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, Mr Kayode Omiyale, appreciated the Governor on behalf of the residents with a promise to ensure adequate protection of the road from vandals.
