NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR REFUGEES, MIGRANTS AND INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS DISTRIBUTES RELIEF MATERIALS TO 700 HOUSEHOLDS IN NIGER STATE                                                                    06-11-23               By Sadiq Aminu                                                      The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons has flagged off the distribution of relief materials to Seven Hundred households in Niger State.

The Federal Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Mr Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed during the symbolic presentatiomn of the relief materials in Minna Niger State said the beneficiaries include IDPs affected by insecurity and Flood.

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons is an Agency under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs which caters for vulnerable individuals, eradicate refugee crisis and coordinate migration-related issues.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Malam Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed described Niger State as one of the worst hit in recent times by disasters in the country.

He said available statistics by the Agency showed that the State has Sixty four thousand IDPs in various camps.

This he noted, did not include the figure of affected people leaving with their loved ones.

Malam Aliyu Ahmed expressed optimism that the intervention of the Agency would help in alleviating the sufferings of the people.

The Federal Commissioner assured Nigerians that the Renewed Hope Mantra of the present Administration is not only on economic rejuvenation but other aspects with plans to Construct Resettlement Cities for those who may not want to return to their ancestral homes

The Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago attributed the rampant cases of Kidnappings and wanton distruction of property in parts of the State to the proliferation of arms.

He hinted that the State Government would set aside five hundred million naira for the creation of a Refugee Agency which would operate under the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

Each of the Seven Hundred households beneficiary is expected to receive Twenty five Kg of Rice, carton of spaghetti and four liters of groundnut oil among others.
