ZAMFARA GOVERNOR DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY ON EDUCATION                                                                  14-11-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                     Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has declared a state of emergency on education.

In a state broadcast on Tuesday, the governor said the neglected education system in Zamfara affects all levels, from primary to tertiary institutions, with poor learning environments and personnel.

He noted that, the declaration of a State of Emergency on Education is in line with the campaign promises of the governor, added that, the State government is fulfilling a pledge to overhaul the education sector, which has virtually collapsed.

Governor Dauda Lawal said he made promises to the people of the state during his campaign tour that he will implement policies and programs aimed at reforming the education sector, building and rehabilitating public schools.

He also assured to providing adequate educational facilities, training and retraining the existing staff to enhance their capacity.

Dauda Lawal further explain that, his administration has commenced the following emergency response: construction and renovation of 245 schools across the State, and provision of two-seater desks for pupils and students, totalling 9,542 across the schools in the 14 local government areas.

According to him, all teachers and education managers will receive subject-specific training and retraining to maintain a minimum level of quality in education delivery.

He added that, government has suspended the licenses of private schools in the state in order to ensures that private schools have meet the required standards for providing quality education.

In a relates development, the results of the NECO exams taken in 2020, 2021, and 2022 will be released to students before the end of this month.

Governor Lawal has also paid the tuition fees and allowances of students on scholarship in various countries, including Sudan, Cyprus, and India.
