HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE CALLS FOR ENFORCEMENT OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY                                                                                                    06-12-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                       The House of Representatives has rolled out plans for the development of legislative and strategic policies for the promotion and implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) across the country.

The Chairman House Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility Mrs Lilian Orogbu, who disclosed this at the inaugural meeting of the committee, underlined the need to streamline CSR reporting mechanisms and ensuring transparency and accountability in all efforts undertaken by Corporate Institutions.

Mrs Orogbu, who highlighted the importance of CSR on the host communities where businesses are carried out across the country, pledged the Committee’s readiness towards  building a more inclusive and sustainable society by fostering positive legislative change and driving societal progress through oversight and laws that suit our current realities.

“The House Committee on CSR aims to promote and encourage a culture of responsible business practices throughout our nation. We believe that every company, regardless of its size or sector, has a role to play in shaping a sustainable future.

She said the primary focus of the committee will be to create a legislative enabling environment that empowers businesses to embrace CSR as a natural extension of their core operations through interface and oversight.

The committee chairman added that through dialogue with stakeholders, the committee will identify best practices and develop guidelines tailored to the unique needs of the country’s diverse business landscape.
