NAFDAC ARRESTS A STAFF OF A COMPANY THAT SELL REGULATED DRUGS IN THE FCT                                                                                   06-12-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                      The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC has arrested a staff of a company that sell regulated drugs in the FCT.

The Deputy Director Investigation and Enforcement, Kaduna, Mr Tamanuwa Andrew said his arrest followed an investigation from a recent raid of pharmaceutical stores.
On Monday, the NAFDAC Investigation and Enforcement team arrested two persons after carrying out a raid on two drug stores located at Wuse 2 and Lokogoma, confiscating items worth over N30 million.

According to Mr Andrew, the suspect led them to a store in Kuchigoro, along the Airport Road, used as a warehouse for unregistered drugs and controlled medications such as morphine.

‘’ The narcotics that we seized from this particular premises, is it cimetidine 130 packets, then the morphine 72 packets, and their market value is worth N45 million for the narcotics’’.
‘’We also have other unregister products that we seized from this premises too of which if I can conservatively say the market values is up to N10 million’’, he maintained.

He described the warehouse as unfit for the storage of medicines.
‘’ When you look at the condition of the premises, it did not meet the requirements of being a pharmacy premises. We’re all sweating and this is where drugs are being kept.
‘’You see the wash hand basin and toilet inside here they just carved out a portion close to the toilet and they are using it as a Warehouse where they are putting all the products we found today’’, he said.

The suspect also confessed that there was another office in Apo where the narcotics were stored, however, after taking the NAFDAC team around the Apo area, he alleged that he had no idea of the exact location.
